July 4th Driving Statistics

July 4th Driving StatisticsWe all know the Fourth of July as a day to kick back, relax, and celebrate the freedoms that we all take for granted every day. Many of us spend the day with family and friends, enjoying the smell of hamburgers and hot dogs on the grill. This holiday is the perfect reason to get together with people that you care about and have fun. After all, we live in a free United States, so why not celebrate all that has happened in order to get us here?

This all sounds great, right? There is one unfortunate circumstance that many people find themselves dealing with around this holiday weekend—travel. For most, seeing family is not as easy as walking down the street or driving to the next neighborhood over. Most Americans find themselves having to drive quite a distance in order to celebrate this holiday the way that they want to.

With so many Americans traveling during the same, very short time period, there is bound to be some unfortunate complications. Highways are backed up and busy, drivers are getting frustrated and angry, and the excitement for the holiday is quickly replaced by aggression and anxiety. We all want to get to our destination, but we all want to get there as soon as possible, and this can create difficulties. Add in the fact that this is a holiday where a lot of people are staying up late and consuming alcohol, and the roadways become even more dangerous.

Fun Things to Do in the Summer in Northern ColoradoSummertime is here again and that means that there is a whole new season of fun things to do here in Northern Colorado. If you are new to the area or just looking for something different than your usual summer plans, here is a list that we have compiled of some of the best things that Northern Colorado has to offer.

Great Outdoors

Here in Northern Colorado, with millions of acres of land, national parks, forests, and state parks, there is so much fun to be had in the great outdoors that sometimes it is hard to fit it all in. Here are some ways to enjoy nature and stay in shape:

  • Hiking: There is a hiking trail for everyone, including beginners and those that plan to go the distance. There are both paved and unpaved trails, including those that offer meadows and grasslands to waterfalls, canyons, and cliffs.
  • Camping: With 42 state parks throughout Colorado, there are plenty of public and private campgrounds to enjoy tent or yurt camping, RV camping, and event cabins. There are even some “glamping” sites now to enjoy a luxurious camping experience for those more inclined toward the motel/hotel overnight experience.
  • Mountain Biking and Cycling: From many mountain trails for biking to cycling events throughout the state, the weather is always the right temperature for getting on your bike.
  • Boating/Water Skiing/Tubing: Although Colorado is a landlocked state, there are plenty of lakes and reservoirs to enjoy boating, water skiing, and tubing. When it comes to water activities, don’t forget whitewater rafting, kayaking, and the slower paced activity of fishing.
  • Golf: There are numerous golf courses throughout Northern Colorado to improve your skills.
  • Horseback Riding: There are lots of dude ranches and horse farms that offer half-day rides or overnight campout adventures in the Colorado wilderness.
  • Motorcycle Touring: With numerous scenic byways and highways, motorcycle tours are available to go together or you can make a weekend of a solo ride through the mountains.
  • Ballooning: You can enjoy a balloon ride and picnic with one of the many ballooning companies in Northern Colorado, or you can try one out at the numerous ballooning festivals held each year, including the summer season.

DIY Dream Catcher Library Workshop | Loveland, CO Attorney | The Law Office of Chris D. HeftyOn Thursday, Jan. 16, the Loveland Public Library is hosting a free, hands-on workshop that teaches preteens and teenagers how to make a dream catcher.

Dream catchers are a traditional craft of the Native American people. In the past, they were handcrafted from items found in nature including twigs, sinew, and feathers. They were believed to protect one from bad dreams. Basically, bad dreams would have to pass through the dream catcher in order to get to the sleeper. These dreams would be unable to find their way through the web of the dream catcher and thus become tangled up. [Read more…]

Loveland's Community Kitchen - The Law Office of Chris D. HeftyWith Thanksgiving quickly approaching, we should all take time to reflect on our good fortunes in life. Many of us do not have to worry about where our next meal will come from, where we will sleep, or if we have a clean change of clothes for the next day.

This November, we at The Law Office of Chris D. Hefty ask that you take some time to help others that may be less fortunate. One great volunteer opportunity that we recommend includes giving someone in Loveland a hot meal that they may have otherwise gone without at Loveland’s Community Kitchen.

Loveland’s Community Kitchen on Garfield prepares seven meals per week for those in need of a hot, nutritious meal. The nonprofit organization does not charge for the meals. No questions are asked of the patrons; if they come to the Community Kitchen, they are welcome to a meal. [Read more…]

Crime rates decrease - Fort Collins and Loveland criminal defense attorney - The Law Office of Chris D. HeftyAs a criminal defense attorney in Loveland and Fort Collins, Colorado, I see clients on a regular basis who have been charged with a crime. People often ask me about crime rates in these cities, as this is a field in which I am heavily invested. I aim to seek justice for Colorado residents accused of a crime but also recognize that data on crime helps law enforcement and city officials keep citizens safe. I recently found some statistics from City-Data.com that reveal the crime rates of many nearby Colorado cities. I am happy to say that Loveland has a below-average crime rate. The city’s crime rate has been steadily decreasing, dropping from 218.9 in 2000 to 176.0 in 2011, the last year data is available. [Read more…]
